This bench system and charging up of your Pokmon before they can take action might in some regards make the game slower compared to other card games, but it also adds a strategic element, since you can generally see what moves you and your opponent have available in the immediate future and can only really be caught by surprise by item or support cards (which can be quite useful but rarely complete game changers)
Things You Should Know Use a balanced Pokmon deck ratio thats around 1520 Pokmon, 15-19 Energy, and 1320 Trainers so you have exactly 60 cards
Charizard didn't gain the Dragon-type for several more years, but few Pokemon resembled a Dragon in the way Charizard did at this point in the series
It does have the usual zero retreat cost and a pitiful 180 HP, but it also has a really nice ability: once during your turn you can draw until you have three cards in your hand
